Why Permission Marketing Is the Future of Online Advertising

Ready for Mobile?
If you think your new website is ready for the mobile revolution, think again. We go through the big mistakes the major players are making for a mobile ready website.
There is so much in the news today about mobile devices and new technologies that it can be quite easy to get caught up in the excitement of it all.
Check your stats
The first question is... do you really need one?
Your first place of call if your Google Analytics account or alternative website tracking tool. Are you actually getting visitors from a mobile device? If so, what is the volume compared to your overall traffic? And what devices are your customers using?
There is nothing wrong with having a mobile site. You are actually future proofing your business. But if you're budget conscious then this step can help you decide on where to better spend your money.
How does a mobile site work?
It's basically a smaller version of your entire website that is optimised for a mobile device and orientated around the psychology of a mobile device user.
The coding is different and using things like a 'Click to Call' button are valuable features to encourage usage. There are a lot of different devices which all operate differently, so just like email marketing your mobile website needs to be consistent across all browsers.
Keep it simple
Most people that navigate to a website from a mobile device will want one of 3 things:
- A phone number.
- A map.
- A brief overview or important pieces of information - like a date for the next function or a downloadable menu for a restaurant.
Bandwidth is limited and users are time poor so companies offering to "mobilise" your entire site might not generate the traffic you intended.
You should provide a scaled down version of your entire site with the option to view the full site.
What about Flash?
Yes... what about Flash. You may not know this but Apple have decided not to support Flash on their range of iPods, iPhones and iPads and we're not anticipating any change in the near future.
This means your beautifully crafted and expensive flash website is rendered useless on the most used mobile device on the market.
Most good website design companies now have moved away from flash in support of lighter and more powerful tools that work on all devices and Adobe technologies are struggling to fill this declining space in the market.
What about an App?
Apps have their place. With billions of iPhone Apps being downloaded each year you might think you are missing out.
Remember though that most mobile websites can do just as much as an App. Plus a mobile website is available on all mobile devices. An iPhone App can only be used on an iPhone, then you need another one for the iPhone 4 and the iPad. There is also Nokia Ovi Store and the Anroid App Marketplace.
If in doubt... start with a landing page
If you're not sure about a mobile website but still want to get involved, start with a landing page. Your mobile customers will appreciate you are considering their needs and will quickly be able to use the information you've provided.
